New Staff Announcement!
Please help us welcome both Beth Bennett and Dylan Carrejo to our family and team at Austin Youth River Watch! In their roles as Program Coordinators, Beth and Dylan will be working directly with River Watchers and Program Staff to develop and facilitate an exceptional after-school and summer program focused on environmental education, mentorship, social responsibility, and personal enrichment. Here is some more information about each of them:
Beth has been an environmental educator and outreach leader at the Camacho Activity Center, the Austin Nature and Science Center, and the Colorado River Alliance. While at Camacho, she created and implemented Dirt Divas, a program in girls empowerment and sustainability. Additionally, Beth gained experience through various professional and community engagements while earning her bachelor’s degree in environmental science and policy at St. Edward’s University. These include internships in International Water Policy, Global Understanding, and serving as a leader on campus sustainability initiatives. Beth graduated in December 2016 among the top of her class with multiple honors.
Dylan has served as a crew member and a crew leader for Texas Conservation Corps, working with youth and adults on environmental conservation projects and disaster response. He has additional experience working for the National Park Service in Tennessee, and Environmental Survey Consulting in Austin. Dylan earned a bachelor’s degree in geography with emphases on resource and environmental studies from Texas State University in May 2017. He has the unique distinction of having introduced former President Barack Obama on national television during the National Christmas Tree-Lighting Ceremony in 2016.
Beth and Dylan are both hands-on leaders, who brings unique combinations of experience and passion for youth development, STEM education, and environmental stewardship. I hope you will join with our Board, River Watchers, Volunteers, and Staff in welcoming Beth and Dylan to Austin Youth River Watch. Let the adventures begin!
