June 19, 2014: Five River Watchers from the Summer Leadership Program Tuesday crew went WILD CAVING at Whirlpool Cave Preserve. Austin Watershed and Texas Cave Management Association granted us access to tour the cave and learn about more about conserving our underground resources. Jessica Gordon and Heather Tucek led our crew safely through the cave, traveling the same course that water travels. They taught us about speleothems, origins of the limestone rock, the water route between Whirlpool Cave Preserve and Barton Springs, troglobytes (cave dwelling creatures), and karst aquifers.
