Students explore Onion Creek and see native freshwater mussel shells

By October 24, 2011No Comments

September 28, 2011     11 AYRW students explored a segment of Onion Creek and discovered the shells of several paper pond shell mussels, native freshwater mussels about half the size of their hands.  The extreme drought that Central Texas has been going through has lead to parts of this powerful stream to dry up.  This makes the mussel populations even more vulnerable than usual.  Learn about the Texas Mussel Watch program.
