July 1, 2014: Eight River Watchers participated in a fish and benthics workshop in the Colorado River at Hornsby Bend. They were joined by Dan Opdyke, who is a consultant in Environmental Engineering. River Watchers worked together to catch fish with a seine and learned how to identify the fish. They got back in the water with several smaller dip nets and caught benthic macroinvertebrates (water bugs that you can see with your eyes without using a microscope). An analysis of their findings showed that the water quality was good to excellent. Back at the EcoHouse, Dan Opdyke spoke about the real world use of their data and also discussed his career path.
