November 16 – 19, 2015 | Service Learning Project | Lady Bird Lake SE Shore
On November 16, six River Watchers from Travis High, completed a pre-assessment analysis of Lady Bird Lake SE Shore. They reviewed tenets of riparian ecology. Students then toured the SE Shore of Lady Bird Lake and identified and discussed ways to improve the shore.
On November 17, six River Watchers from Travis High learned about a beneficial, riparian native grass called Eastern Gamagrass and started planting EG transplants along an eroded bank.
On November 18, six River Watchers from Travis High continued to plant EG transplants along an eroded bank.
On November 19, six River Watchers from Travis High met with Adam Atkins, a Landscape Architect from RVi Planning + Landscape Architecture. Adam talked with the students about his career pathway and how their work improves water quality and then he helped our students finish planting 61 EG transplants.
