August 8, 2013: Seeking weekly volunteers for this Fall!
Our fall programming will be starting up in a few weeks, and we’re looking for a couple of people to serve as weekly, ongoing program volunteers. In the past, we’ve had people tell us it’s the most rewarding volunteer experience they’ve ever had. If you’re interested, keep reading.
During the school year, our ongoing program volunteers accompany one of our crews of students once a week, joining them for their water-testing activities and for their time at our River Watch EcoHouse afterwards. The time frame is roughly 3:30 pm to 6:30 or 7:00 pm. We ask for a commitment of a full semester, and the day of the week depends on what days our program staff have available; but once you’ve got a day, your day will remain the same all semester.
Being an ongoing program volunteer helps River Watch out by providing additional supervision for the kids, and also it gives our River Watchers an additional adult role model who is a consistent, dependable part of their life for the semester. You’ll get to know that group of kids very well. (Most of our crews include around 10 kids.) As you might imagine, it is very important that we maintain consistency with our students, so we will ask the same of you: You are committing to come every week, all semester.
If you’re interested, please send an email to our Executive Director with a few sentences about why you’re interested, and include a current resume. We’ll get back to you soon.
