June 19, 2015: Eight River Watchers from Austin, Lanier, McCallum, Reagan, and Travis High Schools avoided the rainy day by practicing activities indoors that focused on riparian zones. They learned about the basic physical and chemical properties of water, they imitated how water might flow to a stream considering its power and possible interferences, they discussed the importance of riparian vegetation, practiced identifying healthy characteristics of riparian zones, and then they created a drawing of what a healthy riparian zone could look like, complete with native plants, wildlife, and aquatic life.
