September 28 – 30, 2015 | Service Learning Project | Lavendale Trail at Slaughter Creek
On September 28th, six River Watchers from Crockett High School, completed a pre-assessment project analysis, reviewed the benefits of a healthy riparian zone, toured the trail, identified native plant species, and climbed a large oak tree.
On September 29th, six River Watchers from Crockett High School, harvested and planted Switchgrass plugs and constructed check dams in the streambed.
On September 30th, three River Watchers from Crockett High School, led the planting of Switchgrass plugs and construction of check dams in the streambed with students from Austin Community College. An COA Watershed Protection Environmental Scientist spoke with the group about his career pathway and opportunities in riparian restoration.
