November 3-4, 2017 | Young Men’s Overnight and It’s My Park Day
Five River Watch young men had an over night activity at the EcoHouse and then participated in a restoration project for It’s My Park Day with Shoal Creek Conservancy and Austin Parks Foundation! Sleepovers and camp-outs give River Watchers from different schools an opportunity to meet and interact with each other in peer-learning activities. These experiences are especially important in helping young people develop an understanding of different perspectives, as they learn to function in a multicultural environment. On Friday evening the students ate pizza and played games together. The next day at It’s My Park Day, the River Watchers planted 59 Eastern Gamagrass plugs along Shoal Creek in order to restore the riparian zone and prevent future flooding. It’s My Park Day is Austin Parks Foundation’s largest city-wide volunteer event where thousands of volunteers come together to work on various improvement projects in parks and greenbelts throughout the city.
