January 21, 2013: 19 River Watchers and 51 other volunteers joined in learning about the Water Quality of the Colorado River and in cleaning up trash under the Montopolis Bridge an in the neighboring Colorado River Preserve. This was in partnership with Keep Austin Beautiful, City of Austin Watershed Protection and the Austin Parks and Recreation Department. River Watchers walked many of the volunteers through the regular chemical and meter-based tests, while Todd Jackson, Watershed Protection’s resident water bug guru, showed and discussed the diversity of benthic macroinvertebrates in our area.
