September 18, 2012: 17 River Watchers accepted a Proclamation of September 18th as World Water Monitoring Day in Austin from Mayor Lee Lefffingwell, presented by Council Member Kathie Tovo. Students also learned from City of Austin Watershed Protection Department Aquatic Entomologist, Todd Jackson, about benthic macroinvertebrates (water Bugs) and what they tell us about long-term water quality. Students demonstrated water quality tests – dissolved oxygen, pH and Conductivity. Students met other local Environmental groups focussed on water including people from the LCRA’s Colorado River Watch Network, the Colorado River Foundation, Austin Park Rangers and Keep Austin Beautiful.
