March 2 – 7, 2015: Austin Youth River Watch, with the support of Impact Austin, has committed to 10 week-long Service Learning Projects throughout the 2014-2015 school year. These hands-on projects focus on enhancing and improving the riparian corridors along local Austin streams and rivers. River Watchers from nine AISD high schools will each participate in a project, learning more about the environmental and recreational benefits to healthy riparian streambanks. March 2, 2015
Six River Watchers from Austin High School met Richard Craig of Pease Park Conservancy as he led a hike along the grounds of Pease Park. Richard talked to River Watchers about the natural and cultural history of the park and also discussed the Pease Park Master Plan of recreational development and ecological restoration.
March 3, 2015
Eight River Watchers from Austin High School worked with a volunteer at Pease Park to learn more about the regional geology, beneficial riparian land processes, and trail maintenance to improve water quality and quantity. River Watchers collected and dispersed native seeds. They also evaluated part of the trail and began work to improve its accessibility.
March 4, 2015
Six River Watchers from Austin High School avoided the cold, windy weather by meeting indoors with Kazel Morgan. Kazel reviewed teaching visuals that she created focused on riparian ecology, soil health, and beneficial native species at the Wildflower Church.

Unfortunately, AISD canceled classes so we were not able to participate in the Service Learning Project.
