October 22, 2014: Six River Watchers sampled water at Waller Creek between 9th and 10th Streets, following up on a previous sampling that found a higher than usual water level and a cloudy appearance. After collecting results that were similar, River Watchers started at Symphony Square and worked their way downstream until they could find the beginning of the cloudy water. River Watchers took photos and video of the water coming out of the culvert in the creek below Doyle House along Waller Creek Trail. The findings were reported to the City of Austin Environmental Hotline, including the photos. City Staff were able to trace the higher volume of water to a water main break but the source of the turbidity has not yet been managed. River Watchers will continue to monitor the conditions.
