February 24-27, 2014: River Watchers from McCallum High School participated in a four day, service-learning project that focused on stream restoration at Crestmont Park. They began by completing pre-assessments and learning about riparian buffer zones. During the week, they installed “seed islands” along the creek bank to improve the ecological functioning of the riparian buffer and then completed post-assessments for evaluation of the project. McCallum River Watchers also built three runoff models to demonstrate storm runoff for different land uses.
